The table below indicates, for each category of officiant, where they are authorized to act, and the duration of their authorization.

Notary | Throughout Québec | As long as they are registered in due form on the roll of the Chambre des notaires du Québec |
Designated officiant (a family member, a loved one or a friend) | Only in the judicial district indicated in the authorization letter | Valid only for the marriage or civil union in question |
