Scope and duration of the authorization

The table below indicates, for each category of officiant, where they are authorized to act, and the duration of their authorization.

Category	Territory	Duration of the authorization
	Minister of religion	Throughout Québec	Time period granted in the authorization letter
Clerk or deputy clerk of the Superior Court	Throughout Québec	As long as they remain in office
Mayor, municipal or borough council member, or municipal officer	Only in the territory of their municipality	Until the end of their term in office OR, at the latest, the next election date
Notary	Throughout Québec	As long as they are registered in due form on the roll of the Chambre des notaires du Québec
Designated officiant (a family member, a loved one or a friend)	Only in the judicial district indicated in the authorization letter	Valid only for the marriage or civil union in question
