Reading of articles of the Civil Code of Québec
The mandatory reading of certain articles of the Civil Code of Québec must be done in either French or English, as determined by the intended spouses.
If the officiant or either spouse does not understand the language used or is unable to express himself or herself in that language, the intended spouses must hire an interpreter, who is not a member of their family. The interpreter must carry out his or her duties impartially and accurately.
