Directeur de l'état civil's decision
After studying your application, the Directeur de l’état civil renders a decision in writing.
If you are authorized to solemnize the marriage or civil union, you will receive your officiant kit by mail, which contains the following documents:
- A letter from the Directeur de l’état civil confirming your authorization number;
- A Declaration of Marriage (DEC−50) or a Declaration of Civil Union form (DEC−55), as the case may be;
- A checklist summarizing your obligations before, during and after the solemnization;
- Two postage-paid envelopes to forward the required documents to the Directeur de l’état civil and the Institut de la statistique du Québec.
If you are not authorized to solemnize the marriage or civil union, the reasons for the refusal will be provided to you and the intended spouses.
