When a death occurs outside Québec, the act of death is prepared by the officer of the civil status of the country or province where the death took place. You can then apply to the Directeur de l'état civil to have the act of death that was made outside Québec inserted into the Québec register of civil status, under certain conditions.
This procedure can enable you, for example, to obtain the official documents needed for the liquidation of a succession, such as a certificate or a copy of an act of death issued by the Directeur de l'état civil.
There is no charge for this service.
