In Québec, the Directeur de l'état civil is the sole government body officially designated to issue official documents relating to civil status events, i.e., certicates, copies of acts and attestations of birth, marriage, civil union and death.
New procedures when declaring a birth
You may now give your consent to have the Directeur de l'état civil forward your social insurance number with information on the birth of your child to the Ministère de l'Emploi et de la Solidarité sociale, which administers the Québec Parental Insurance Plan (QPIP).
